Fremdkörper Special

Fremdkörper Special

With Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot, Ginevra Petrozzi & Mala Kline

What knowledge about ourselves and our place on this earth is hidden in our subconscious? Is there a source of wisdom hidden in the dream world? During the Fremdkörper Special on Saturday 11 December, we dive deeper into the world of (dream) oracles, sleep rituals and digital magic. Together with performance duo Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot, digital witch Ginevra Petrozzi and dream therapist Mala Kline, we will explore the subconscious through a workshop, session and ritual ceremony.

The day will be organised in such a way that enough - physical - distance can be kept between us. With a small, intimate group we investigate themes that, especially now, are so valuable - at a time when the way we move through the world with our bodies no longer goes without saying. Perhaps we will find answers in our subconscious to questions the COVID-19 pandemic relentlessly presented us, about ourselves and the place we as humans inhabit on this earth.

BOOGAERDT/VANDERSCHOOT
In MU, performance duo Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot (BvdS) presents the multimedia installation Fremdkörper till 30 December. The work of BvdS shows corporeality in all its manifestations. The expressive, physical, daring and exceedingly visual theatrical installations revolve around the struggles and challenges people face in today’s media-driven world. BvdS sees our collective focus and sensory perceptions as humans’ most essential and political powers - especially now in the necessary process of change towards a liveable world.

MALA KLINE – SESSION 'THE WORLD AS A MIRROR'
Mala Kline is a Slovenian choreographer and philosopher. Her extensive oeuvre is based on the Saphire® dreaming technique, the practice of inner vision, of which she is a certified therapist.

Mala will join us online and guides the session The world as a Mirror. Imagination, the visual language of the subconscious, creates space for new ideas, hope, coherence and wholeness. In the session we will look at the world as a mirror image of our soul; the subconsciousness as the reverse mirror of consciousness - which shows obstacles as well as potentials. We dive deeper into the notion and value of mirroring and embark on a ritual inward journey to our subconcious under the guidance of Mala.

GINEVRA PETROZZI - WORKSHOP 'KNOWS TOO MUCH'
Italian designer and artist Ginevra Petrozzi investigates the role of witchcraft, folk knowledge, magic, rituality and mysticism in our digital age. Last summer, Ginevra presented a couple of digital readings at MU. In the role of digital witch, she placed Tarot in a digital perspective and read our realities using our smartphones, like you would read a Tarot card.

Knows Too Much is a workshop and collective digital spell to reframe the human-device connection. Participants are invited to interrogate their own smartphones as modern soothsayers, unveiling the subconscious symbols that - very much like dreams - inhabit their digital realities. What do these devices say about us? The workshop, acting like a psycho-magic act, will be using rituals, symbology, words, experiences to establish a new kind of relationship with our digital devices and selves, and make us think about issues such as cyber security, surveillance and the power of algorithms.
