Drawing an Atlas of Queer Anatomy

Drawing an Atlas of Queer Anatomy

Workshop by Kuang-Yi Ku & Henry de Vries

In Drawing an Atlas of Queer Anatomy, designer Kuang-Yi Ku and scientist Henry de Vries introduce us to their re-examining of the existing anatomical textbook ‘Atlas of Human Anatomy’ drawn by Frank H. Netter (1906-1991), a white male scholar, as part of their Bio Art & Design Award winning collaboration. The illustrations in this anatomical textbook are still widely used, but are also highly patriarchal and heteronormative. This workshop challenges these illustrations by developing new ways of depicting anatomy from queer, inclusive and interspecies perspectives.

Come take part in this workshop and let yourself be guided through different ways of perceiving the microbe-human relationship by creating multi-species body landscapes. Re-understand your own body from a non-anthropocentric point of view. Tickets can be found here.

Our coming exhibition, Beyond Borders and Binaries, (opening December 16) is all about the Bio Art & Design Award 2022: the collaborative project between Kuang-Yi Ku and Henry de Vries will be on show, alongside other inspiring works that break down boundaries and divisions.
